Job Description



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists Emergency Medical Technicians in providing life support and transport of sick and injured persons in and out of hospital settings. Provides EVO-level emergency medical care to patients. Operates ambulance and maintains a good working relationship with all customer groups and agencies.

  • Works closely with the on-duty Supervisor and Communications to provide supplies to field crews and to decontaminate ambulances.
  • Operates an ambulance and transports patients; operates non-emergency vehicles
  • Operates and monitors emergency medical equipment per EVO protocols
  • Communicates with MEMS’ Communication center and other agencies while in transport or while responding to calls
  • Timely completes all required documentation with appropriate and accurate information
  • Adheres to all operating and safety policies and procedures.
  • Fogs and decontaminates emergency vehicles
  • Provides supplies such as PPE, food, and equipment to field crews
  • Assists in maintaining supplies and equipment as well as general upkeep and cleaning of ambulances


QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Arkansas driver’s license with motor vehicle record that meets insurance carrier standards
  • Two years driving experience
  • Knowledge of MEMS’s service area and the ability to read and comprehend maps and directions
  • Ability to speak clearly and effectively in person and over the telephone and radio
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to remain calm during stressful situations
  • Ability to present a caring and professional image
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR and AR EVO certificate: MEMS provides fully paid training in emergency medical response and CPR. Employees must successfully complete the classroom and hands-on training to include passing written exams and demonstrating required skills.


WORKING CONDITIONS
Primary schedules include 10-hour and 12-hour shifts.


PHYSICAL ABILITIES
  • Frequently lifts 110+ pounds.  Carrying and lifting stretchers with and without patients.
  • Pushing, pulling and carrying various medical equipment, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, bending, twisting, lifting, walking, running.
  • Driving, using 2-way radio and other devices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in wet, dry, hot, and cold (even below freezing) weather
  • Respirator use may be required on occasion.
  • Hearing by audiometric testing that demonstrates no worse than a moderate loss of hearing in one ear or no more than a mild loss of hearing in both ears.
  • Requires corrected or uncorrected vision 20/20 in each eye & with both eyes together.


REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Arkansas driver’s license and acceptable driving record, as defined by MEMS' insurance carrier.
  • Minimum age of 19.
  • Must be physically fit based; pre-employment physical is required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.


TRAINING

EVO Training consists of 2 Weeks of in class instruction that will lead to your certification as an Emergency Vehicle Operator.



WORK LOCATIONS

EVOs will work out of the MEMS Headquarters.



PAY
Starting pay for an EVO is $28,000, paid on an hourly basis.
