The MEMS Disaster Communications Team utilizes advanced equipment and expertise to provide critical communication support for first responders, emergency services, and local government agencies, ensuring a seamless exchange of vital information, even in the most challenging conditions. The team uses a variety of UHF and VHF public safety frequencies for both training and field operations, enhancing their ability to respond effectively in real-world scenarios.
In addition to their core operations, team members are licensed HAM Radio Technicians. MEMS DOES NOT use HAM Radio frequencies for routine communications. The licensing is essential for two reasons: 1) It establishes a standard to ensure team members have a solid understanding of radio operations, and 2) It allows communication with HAM radio operators in the field during emergencies, ensuring coordination during disasters should the need arise
BACN Club Backup Auxiliary Communications Network
Disaster Comm team members also make up the core of the BACN Club, automatically becoming members. BACN was created to give team members a chance to connect, share ideas, and enjoy some off-the-clock camaraderie. The club meets regularly to sharpen their skills and stay up to date. All HAM radio operations and club meetings are unpaid and fully comply with federal guidelines.
Who are Members?
This club is composed mainly of dedicated MEMS Disaster Communications Team members. Membership is extended to friends, family members, and fellow first responders who share a commitment to effective communication.
How can I join?
BACN is undergoing a revamp and reorganization. Stay tuned! We will soon share information about how to join the club.
